Dear friends, thank you again for your contributions, which in this period have increased thanks to the fact that many forces from all sides joined to celebrate Christmas with the families of the children and young people who participate in the programs.
What does this report contain? We briefly talked about the actions carried out in the organization between November 2022 and January 2023. Being the end of the year, we focused on completing the training process of the young people who study in the cooking school and the accompaniment made to the children to finish their school work. At this particular time we launched a campaign to raise funds for Christmas and we will also talk about it.
What have we done?
In affection: During this period we had particular situations of domestic violence in some homes. To better accompany this reality, we activate relationships with physical and mental health institutions. With this, we managed to advise the adults in the families to begin resolving conflicts in another way and not through violence. Our perspective is not to look for "guilty", but to understand the causes of the situation to help transform behavior patterns that improve the quality of bonds and relationships in families. We continue to carry out human and psychosocial accompaniment with young people, establishing that self-harm actions are increasing and that it is important to recover the construction of life projects where it is possible to build an individual and collective horizon of well-being. With both groups we have continued training in skills for the proper management of emotions.
The Christmas celebration was a scenario that allowed the encounter, the reconciliation, the celebration through the delivery of gifts to more than 170 children who participated during the year in the different initiatives. To achieve these gifts we carried out a campaign to deliver kits that contained pieces made in the groups and we could see how much solidarity was displayed with this action everywhere. There were more than 60 people who joined and we achieved the goal.
In nutrition: We continued the training process of cooking workshops for children and this motivated many to learn more about the nutritional value of the food they eat. In fact, it was possible that some days they were the ones who actively participated in the preparation of their snacks, of course keeping all the conditions of care and doing only cold cooking practices. During this period, the young people who study cooking completed their basic cooking module and also saw Colombian and international cuisine. It was then a time of much practical learning for them, which also brings important challenges in self-observation and a higher level of awareness about the responsibilities and opportunities that the kitchen profession brings when they dedicate themselves to it in their working lives.
During this period, the Christmas celebration took place, which revolved around sharing a generous lunch for 300 people. This was accompanied by small bites that are very typical at this time of year such as fritters and custard, which are preparations made from cornmeal and cheese, the former; and milk and corn starch, the second. Around sharing food, carols are sung, the novena is prayed together and community is built.
In education: In this period of closing the year, the work is focused on carrying out activities that allow children to carry out their end-of-year school tasks in order to properly close their processes and promote them to the next school grade. With this work, the preparation of the Christmas gatherings that last 9 days and culminate in the celebration that this year took place on December 17 is tied. In the Cooking School, 30 young people completed their training process and in March 2023 they will be certified as kitchen assistants. As always, the training processes are focused on developing and strengthening human abilities that allow children and young people to strengthen themselves not only in knowledge and techniques, but also as individuals.
