It's All About Feeding Smiles!

Feeding meals one SMILE at a time

Keeping food on needy children's plates is at the heart of Live and Learn in Kenya International (LLK).  Our organization provides warm and nutritious meals to 565 children daily, six days a week. These meals are not just about nourishment; they are a cornerstone of the children’s growth, education, and overall well-being. The LLK program ensures that no child under its care faces the hardship of hunger.

The children who attend the Live and Learn in Kenya Education Center benefit greatly from this initiative. Spanning Kindergarten, Preschool, Elementary School, and Junior High School, the center provides breakfast and lunch to students every school day. These meals are thoughtfully prepared, ensuring they are both nutritious and appealing. LLK understands that children cannot focus on learning if their minds are preoccupied with hunger, and a full stomach is critical for both academic performance and physical development.

Beyond the Education Center, LLK extends its support to our students at partner schools, colleges, and universities. These pupils and students receive their school lunches, funded on a term-by-term basis.  This commitment ensures that every child under LLK’s umbrella has access to at least one substantial meal a day, regardless of where they are in their educational journey.

LLK’s efforts do not stop on weekdays. Every Saturday, all Live and Learn in Kenya children are invited to enjoy warm lunches at the center.  Saturdays are a special time filled with tutoring, sports, music activities, and games on the playground. These activities not only enhance the children’s educational and social development but also foster a sense of community and belonging. The Saturday lunches provide an additional layer of nourishment, ensuring that the children’s dietary needs are met even outside regular school days.

One of the most remarkable aspects of the LLK program is the preparation of meals. Wholesome food is freshly cooked in LLK’s own kitchen by a dedicated team of mamas and staff.  This hands-on approach ensures that the meals meet the highest standards of quality and taste. The sight of familiar faces preparing their meals adds a comforting touch, making the children feel cared for and valued.

For many of these children, a warm meal a day is the difference between hunger and health. LLK’s dedication to providing nutritious meals plays a crucial role in preventing malnutrition and supporting the overall health of the children. Proper nutrition is essential for cognitive development, energy levels, and the ability to engage in school and extracurricular activities. By addressing hunger, LLK paves the way for a brighter future for these children, enabling them to focus on learning and growing into strong, healthy individuals.

Feeding smiles is more than just a phrase; it’s a mission that LLK fulfills with compassion and determination.  Through its comprehensive meal program, LLK not only keeps food on needy children’s plates but also provides them with the foundation they need to thrive. Every meal served is a step toward breaking the cycle of poverty and creating opportunities for a better tomorrow.
