Provide a quality education for girls in Liberia

It is already October!! Germinating Every Mind-Liberia (GEM-Liberia) and the Jennifer Albee Enrichment School extend their profound gratitude to GlobalGiving and all of our donors for the enormous and continued support to the girls of Liberia. GEM- Liberia is pleased to forward its quarterly report. This period's report covers from June 20, 2021 to October 17, 2021.

School officially closed for the 2020/2021 academic year in July. We had a total of 78 students enrolled. Fifty students were in grade 1-6 and 28 in kindergarten.  

Of the 78 students, 54 successfully graduated from their level and were promoted to the next grade. Four of those students were so successful, they were allowed to advance two grades. Only ten students were held back from graduating to the next grade.

Fourteen students were promoted “probationally”, meaning they failed one or two subjects but were invited to attend additional classes between the academic years to improve their marks. From August 16 to October 15, 2021, the 14 probation students completed a two-month vacation school program in the subject that caused them trouble during the school year. Upon completion, they were promoted to their next grade. 

Registration for 2021/2022 academic year began October 11, 2021 and runs up to October 29, 2021. In preparation of the new academic year, two of our teachers participated in a government sponsored two-day early childhood development  training. The school has begun its expansion project and a fence project. The fence is 80% completed and will enhance the safety of the children. The school has been elevated to Grade 7 so the building project is geared towards constructing an additional structure that will accommodate three classes.
