We are Committed to the Children of Florida

By Save the Children | Save the Children

At the one-year mark since Hurricane Irma, children have returned to schools, caregivers are receiving social and emotional support and families continue to rebuild their lives. Knowing that recovery takes years, Save the Children will continue to partner with the most affected communities in South Florida and the Florida Keys for the year ahead.

Committed to the Children of Florida

As the recovery process continues to evolve, so do the needs of children.

  • Emotional Support: Save the Children is providing its flagship social emotional recovery program, Journey of Hope, and training hundreds of teachers, educators, child care providers, caregivers and more, in the ways to best support children and families affected by this disaster.
  • Return to Learning: We continue to collaborate with early education networks serving the most vulnerable children and families, including the Early Learning Coalition of Miami-Dade, to help restore child care to South Florida and the Florida Keys, where Hurricane Irma destroyed most local programs, and with the partners in Immokalee, serving migrant farmer families, many who have lost everything.
  • Prepared for the Future: Emergency preparedness and resilience building are core parts of our recovery strategy in Florida. Through collaboration and technical assistance from Save the Children, our partners are directly supporting child-care centers with emergency planning, equipping families with the essential supplies, and teaching children preparedness and resilience skills through our Prep Rally program.

Nobody knows when the next crisis will strike, but your support helps Save the Children provide assistance in the critical first hours and days of an emergency when children need us most. Visit www.SavetheChildren.org/Crisis to help.
