A physical space for new mothers

To highlight the impact of our work, here’s a recent review from one of our participants on Google Reviews:

“I attended MamiCare’s prenatal classes during my pregnancy, and they were a lifeline. The trainers were so kind and explained everything clearly—how to prepare for birth, how to care for my baby, and even how to take care of myself after delivery. ...Thank you, MamiCare, for supporting us!” – Elona K., Tirana

This heartfelt feedback reflects the personal connections we strive to build with every mother we serve.

Back in September, one of our supporters asked me how MamiCare would be different if we had a physical space again as we did in the beginning.

I told him that it sounded like an amazing, but impossible dream.

Could we really have

  • An inviting space for couples to gather for classes?
  • A protected space for lactation consults?
  • An space that would inspire collaboration?

Together we decided that a well-curated physical space could do all these things and more as it strengthens service, identity, and connection.

Our supporter went back to his people and shared our story and our dream, and within 3 months we had the finances to make a start!

Now, on our third month in our new space we enjoy:

  • The creativity and connection that comes with working with our team.
  • Welcoming spaces to hold prenatal classes and to do in-house consults for mothers who prefer to come to us.
  • Space to keep our gear and extra pumps so they stay clean and protected.
  • New collaborations with local organizations also helping women

A physical space can be transformative for the mothers that come, as well as for the staff that work with MamiCare.

As we look forward, we want to use the space in the following new ways:

  1. Offer new classes we haven't offered yet, such as Baby's first foods and Fitness in pregnancy and post-partum.
  2. Let an organization working with survivors of abuse gather together.
  3. Produce a podcast focused on new mothers and their health.
  4. Produce materials to reach new mothers in the underprivileged Roma community.

We are deeply grateful to each and every supporter, donor, and volunteers who together make this work possible. Truly you are the ones who help us sustain and expand our work and without you, we wouldn't be here.

Together we can transform maternal and child health outcomes in Albania, one mother and baby at a time.by sharing our story, supporting our work, and connecting us with others who we can learn from and grow with.

Sincerely yours,

Lizzy
