Acquiring Learning Material

By Phyllis | Director

Raregem talent school is a school under Dyslexia Organization of Kenya. The school is located in Kitengela, Kajiado County, Kenya.

Rare Gem is an inclusive set up for learners with specific learning difficulties such as Dyslexia, Dyscalculia Dysgraphia and Dyspraxia and Neural developmental disorders.

The children at Rare Gem Talent School do better in activities involving practical works. We have introduced several programs to help the children acquire skills that can lay a foundation for their future career.

These activities include:

  • Tapestry and mat making
  • Beading work.
  • Fashion and beauty.
  • Tailoring and dress making.
  • Music and dancing.
  • Art and drawing.
  • Baking and cooking.

Rare Gem Talent School is grateful to GLOBAL GIVING Platform and each person who donated. We managed to:

        i.           Buy tapestry material, crochets and sewing threads for the mat making class.

ii.           Acquire more text books and flash cards for easier learning.

iii.            Purchase sewing machines for use in our tailoring and dress making class.

iv.            Buy more beads for the beadwork eg necklace and ornament making class.

       v.           Put some of the money in the ongoing construction of classrooms for children with dyslexia.

vi.            Purchased a keyboard and hired a trainer to teach the children on how to play the piano.

vii.            Buy salon dolls and other beauty products for the fashion and beauty class.

The progress and development is good and evident in what the children can do, the finished products and the work in progress.
