A short sweet update

By Sarah Bergs | Executive Director

Taking dogs to local vet clinic for sterilization
Taking dogs to local vet clinic for sterilization

Sometimes we write a report with lots of barking, whimpering, and woofing (lots to say) and othertimes the quarterly update report sneaks up on us, showing how quickly time has flown this year. Covid-19 has given us all a new calendar, one managed by lockdown restrictions, and evolving changes and landscapes/rules to operate within. It has certainly been an interesting year!

Our animal kindness has continued however, with Martin still actively engaging with his community, and us slowly funding the funds and support to keep sterilizing dogs at the local community clinic. Transport issues, logistics, and riots have not been on our side, and there have been some challenges, but despite this we have still managed to sterilize a few dogs each month, administering 5-in-1 vaccines and rabies shots as needed.

In addition we have decided to focus on integrating animal kindness into our daily operations, and we have decided to work on teaching the children how to care for and look after their own dogs, by letting them learn at Nourish with the Nourish dogs.

Our beautiful Onyx is a gentle giant, and is willingly being led on the leash for short walks by the children now, with them calmly and confidently learning how to put on the collar and walk her. This might seem normal, but many dogs are not used to walking and many children have never had the chance to walk a dog on a leash (sometimes a rope is around the neck to keep them from running away but that is it..) To learn that you can have a dog as a companion and that going for a walk can be fun has been a learning experience on both sides.

Thank you for sharing this journey into aninmal kindness and welfare with us.
