By Lou Billett | Chairperson, African Angels
We are fortunate to have many committed sponsors of Angels from across the world, and within South Africa. Pam L visited her daughter Hayley, whilst she was participating in a volunteer veterinary experience in South Africa. After visiting African Angels, and deciding to sponsor Bunono, who she met during her stay, Pam has become one of our most dedicated supporters. We asked Pam to write a few sentences about what sponsoring an Angel means to her ..
"During a visit to Chintsa East in August 2018, I was fortunate to have been able to volunteer in a classroom at African Angels School. After interacting with the students and committed staff, it became clear to me I would have to stay involved even after returning to the United States. I knew the students and school’s critical work must be supported. This ultimately led to my sponsoring of Bunono, and my continued fundraising efforts with family, friends, and colleagues.
Sponsoring Bunono has provided an opportunity for me to help a child to realize his full potential, while hopefully alleviating some financial stress on his mom. Seeing him improve academically and achieve has made me very proud. Watching a video clip of him receiving a writing award actually brought tears to my eyes. Knowing how hard Bunono is working, and seeing him smile, makes it all so worthwhile. But, most importantly, it’s not just about what I am doing to help him. It’s the gift he has given me. That being the satisfaction of knowing I have a child in another part of the world whose life I have helped to change."
Allocating a sponsorship to a family is prioritised according to the family's situation, with orphaned children and single headed households given first priority, in line with the policy developed by our parent body. Sponsors receive termly updates, usually via Whatsapp, from our Sponsor Communications Officer and usually a report.
Sponsoring an Angel via the GlobalGiving website also provides US tax payers and IRS compliant receipt.
We are very grateful to our Angel's sponsors, and thanks to Pam for taking the time to tell us why.
Please contact us if you'd like to change the future of a child in South Africa.
