Hello Donors!
Since Hurricane Michael hit the Florida Panhandle in early October, our teams have been hard at work helping the community recover from the extensive storm damage. Assessing the immense and widespread destruction of the storm, our team initially identified a need for chainsawing and tree work. While a lot of our work continues to be within this scope, focus has shifted to prioritize mucking, gutting, and sanitizing homes and community structures. Due to the massive amount of roofing damage, many structures in the area are now seeing severe mold growth. Left untreated, this mold can cause serious health concerns.
This last month, our team began response work at the CC & Vivian Moore Boys and Girls Club in Panama City. Before the storm, the club served on average 165 students daily, offering teen programs, club sports, indoor & outdoor space, homework support, and computer literacy. Roof damage to both main buildings caused significant flooding and the club has been shut down until cleanup and repairs are completed. So far, our teams have mucked and gutted water-damaged classrooms and gym areas, sanitized all interior spaces, removed debris, and cleaned the grounds.
While we have surpassed 6 months since Michael made landfall, there is still so much work left to be done. Our staff and volunteers are committed to supporting recovery for the long haul. With your generous support, we are confident that we will be able to bring a sense of normalcy back to as many families as possible. To date, our teams have worked on 141 homes and community structures, logging 3,285 hours. This work has helped 493 people so far! We are so grateful for the ongoing support of the GlobalGiving community that has helped make this all possible.
Thank you!
