Hello friends and supporters of GlobalGiving,
Though it may feel like a lifetime since Hurricane Michael struck the southern coast of the U.S., many families are still reeling from the unimaginable damage caused. The highly destructive storm that made landfall in early October has left families surrounded by devastation and loss. Their road to recovery will be long, but our experienced teams of staff and volunteers are committed to making full recovery a reality for as many of these families as possible. With your support, we are confident we will achieve this goal!
Our teams arrived within two weeks following the storm in order to set up a VRC in Mexico Beach and to begin assessments. Now fully operational, our Florida Response Program volunteers are working in and around Calhoun County, Florida. Our current scope of work includes chainsaw work to remove fallen and hazardous trees, general debris removal and management, as well as the mucking and gutting of water-damaged homes. With the utmost care and sensitivity, our teams help homeowners salvage as many of their personal items as possible before they begin working on the home itself (which involves removing damaged building materials, and prepping for mold sanitization). These steps are critical for families eager to return home and to a sense of normalcy.
Though a lot of work remains, we are pleased to report to you the incredible work our passionate volunteers have accomplished so far. To date, our teams have worked on 68 homes logging 8,236 hours. This work has helped 337 people so far! We are so grateful for the ongoing support of the GlobalGiving community that has helped make this all possible.
From all of us at All Hands and Hearts Smart Response, Thank you!
