Over the past several years, the scope and scale of natural disasters has increased dramatically. Americares responds to an average of 30 emergencies each year, including natural disasters like hurricanes, earthquakes and wildfires, and also complex emergencies like war and humanitarian crises. In any emergency response, our primary goal is to save lives and improve health for people affected by disasters, while promoting long-term recovery and disaster preparedness.
Disasters, including wildfires, drought, flooding, war, hurricanes, and pandemics, affect 185 million people annually. The increasing frequency of climate disasters lead to displacement, medical emergencies, and disruptions in care and puts clean air, safe drinking water, secure housing and food supplies at risk. When disaster hits, those most disproportionately affected live in low-income communities or countries that already lack the resources to be able to prepare for or respond to disaster
Donors like you can help us maintain a constant state of disaster readiness that will allow us to respond quickly and effectively to emergencies large and small around the world. With 10 offices in 9 countries, we are ready to respond to crises in the U.S. and across the globe. For over 40 years, Americares has helped communities prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters by providing life-changing medicine, medical supplies and health programs.
Last year we responded to 36 different disasters. With our partners, we prepare for the worst that nature or humans can produce. We respond quickly to a disaster and then we stick around as long as our help is needed. Your commitment helps make it possible for us not only to fix the broken but build back better. The recovery effort works to support and sustain local health centers who will serve their communities long after our teams have left - stronger and better prepared for the next disaster
