GLOBALGIVING REPORT – MARCH 2020

HELP ALLEVIATE MISERY FOR ANIMALS IN CAPE TOWN

 Dear GlobalGiving Supporters

We are so blessed to be part of the GlobalGiving Family, which has afforded us the opportunity of being introduced to so many caring donors, who have supported our Project.  The generosity of all you special donors is greatly appreciated, as your contributions mean that we can fulfil our Project objectives of providing free sterilisations and primary healthcare (vaccinations, deworming and defleaing) services to the animals of Vrygrond (Capricorn) and surrounding settlements.

The challenge is sometimes daunting, as the number of animals needing our help is overwhelming, but, just knowing that we have your support, our valued and compassionate donors, who champion our cause, motivates us to do our best for the animals and their owners in these severely impoverished communities.  Our previous Reports advised that we had helped 93 dogs and cats (June to August 2019), and a further 101 (October to November 2019).  For the period November 2019 to February 2020 we sterilised and provided primary healthcare for 97 needy animals in Vrygrond, making a total of 291 companion animals helped over a 9 month period.

We have a heart-warming story to share with you, which emanates from a settlement known as Overcome Heights, in the heart of the greater Vrygrond area.  Our Animal Welfare Assistant was handed a dear nine week old puppy, who was unwanted.  Yuki, as we called her, which means “Happiness”, in Japanese, had a severe overburden of ticks; both her ears and paws were infested with ticks, and she was in a critically compromised condition.  She was rushed to our hospital where our Vet, Dr Sabastian, treated her to destroy the ticks, and did a blood smear to test for biliary and ehrlichia, which are tick borne diseases.  Little Yuki tested positive for both; she was a very sick little puppy, and was immediately given a blood transfusion.  We did not know whether she would survive, but these little township puppies are resilient, and Yuki is well on the way to recovery, in the care of our volunteer Vet who is fostering her.

Many photos have been taken of Yuki, and we have great pleasure in sharing some of these with you, including a video, as well as other photos taken in January, while our team were working in Vrygrond.

Our work in these areas would not be possible without the wonderful support of those who care about our Project and the work we do, and we thank you for assisting us, through your contributions, to help relieve the plight of animals in distress and fight the scourge of cruelty, abuse and neglect, which confront us on a daily basis.  We believe that the only way to tackle pet overpopulation and the resultant misery, is through sterilisation, and your contributions have certainly helped us to mitigate the problem.

 WITH HEARTFELT THANKS
