Introduction
Enterprise education - The aims of enterprise education are to make young people aware of the importance of entrepreneurship; allow them to investigate if it is a desirable option; and equip them with entrepreneurial skills that will allow them to develop entrepreneurial competencies which, in turn, might be beneficial for their own business or work.
Positive Reports & Future Planning
We have completed the enterprise program for three cohorts of 20 students, with the fourth cohort ongoing. From the first class, eight youth entrepreneurs have started their own businesses, ranging from chicken and pig farming and school uniforms to watermelon farming and computer cafes.
Martin from Prime Digital Technology and the All Out Africa Foundation have continued to develop the program in computer literacy, with thanks to Prime Digital Technology and the British High Commissioner who donated computers. We are developing a mentorship program with both successful graduates and external supporters of the Enterprise Training Program. A Memorandum of Understanding is being developed with local banks in Eswatini to provide support in the business registration process and easier access to micro-loans to start a business. Mfanukhona continues to work with individual entrepreneurs on their business plans and finding start-up capital.
The All Out Africa Foundation will continue to implement the program with the following goals: (1) to increase awareness of entrepreneurship as a career option; (2) to help individuals brainstorm and focus on a viable business idea; (3) to provide inputs into the development of business plans and subsequent enterprises; and, (4) to provide a range of skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur.
Program Stories
Mfanukhona approached the Ministry of Agriculture for partnership in helping the youth entrepreneurs in the agriculture industry. The Veterinary Unit agreed to train our youth on cattle feedlot farming, which has led interested youth entrepreneurs to complete two workshop training through the Ministry of Agriculture and the Taiwan Technical mission.
