Report:                      Report on Health Insurance for 200 Widows and Orphans in Abuja

GlobalGiving             Project No. #48816

Period:                       August 15, 2024 – December 12, 2024

Reported By:             Widows and Orphans Empowerment Organization (WEWE)

Date:                           Wednesday, December 11, 2024

The Widows and Orphans Empowerment Organization (WEWE) has covered the annual health insurance premiums for 118 widows and orphans over the past four years and three months (from September 23, 2020, to December 12, 2024). To date, WEWE has raised a total of $9,944.32 through 119 donations. The main goal of WEWE's project, hosted on the GlobalGiving website, is to raise $50,000 to provide health insurance for 200 widows and orphans in Abuja, Nigeria, ensuring they have access to healthcare services. WEWE is pleased to report that we have successfully achieved over 55% of our target.

In these five (5) months reporting period from August 15, 2024 – December 12, 2024, WEWE received N906,017.06 (USD $594.11) in cash donations from individual philanthropists within Nigeria. However, there were no donations from WEWE’s crowdfunding page hosted on the GlobalGiving website during this period. The funds received were used to register nine (9) beneficiaries who are widows, and their families (6 widows and 3 orphans) to a Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) called Reliance Health Insurance for one (1) year

During this five (5) month's reporting period (August 15, 2024 – December 12, 2024), WEWE identified six (6) households headed by widows (6 widows and three orphans) and provided health insurance to them for one (1) year. This was made possible by donations from individual philanthropists. In total, WEWE has now supported 118 beneficiaries.

In the last quarter, WEWE provided health insurance for a total of 109 widows and orphans, distributed across the years as follows: 55 in 2021, 26 in 2022, 16 in 2023, and 21 from the beginning of 2024 until the present. This insurance provider covers National Government Insurance and Direct Private Health services.

Challenges and Mitigation

There were no challenges during this reporting period because widows and orphans are receiving free healthcare services.

Conclusion

As of December 12, 2024, WEWE has enrolled 118 beneficiaries out of the 200 widows and orphans with support from 119 donations from WEWE’s crowdfunding page hosted on the GlobalGiving website and individual donors from inception to date. We still have 81 beneficiaries to be registered into the Health Insurance for 200 Widows and Orphans in Abuja.

WEWE continues to solicit more donor support to reach our target goal.

On behalf of the 118 widows and orphans’ beneficiaries who have benefited from this project to date, we thank all the donors supporting WEWE’s Project No. #48816 “Health Insurance for 200 Widows and Orphans in Abuja, Nigeria” hosted on GlobalGiving crowdfunding website.
