Report on Health Insurance for 200 Widows and Orphans in Abuja

By

Widows and Orphans Empowerment Organisation (WEWE)

The objective of this project is to raise $50,000 from GlobalGiving platform to enable 200 widows and her orphans in Abuja have access to healthcare services through health insurance.

WEWE has so far received donations of $8,115 from 83 donors.

WEWE has provided health insurance for 45 widows – this is for both National Government Insurance and Private Healthcare Scheme.

From August 25, 2022 to December 23, 2022 (4 months), WEWE has received $259.38 which has been able to enrolled additional 5 widows on GIFSHIP, making a total of 28 widows currently on the operations of the Group, Individual, and Family Social Health Insurance Programme (GIFSHIP).

Challenges:

  1. Far distance to healthcare center location
  2. It took 3 months to enroll widows on the government national database
  3. The healthcare service doesn’t cover for some severe health issue such as bone dislocation of a child

Mitigation:

  1. WEWE will follow up to change/register them to a closer healthcare center
  2. Follow up with Government National Database office to facilitate a faster registration for widows
  3. WEWE will provide support on some of the severe health issues not covered by health insurance

Small group discussions with Executive Director and Widows on feedback on the health insurance programme (Please see attached pictures)

As donors continue to donate, more widows and orphans in Abuja will continue to receive proper healthcare services.

Thank you GlobalGiving for the platform given to Widows and Orphans Empowerment Organization (WEWE) to bring this service and more to widows and orphans.

Yours in service of helping the Widows and Orphans.
