progress report goat farming project

By Jean Damascene Uwizeyimana | Project Leader

Dear Patrons,
I am happy to update you on the Goat farming project, the project aims to support 200 families in Burega village and so far we have been able to raise funds from local donors to support eight families. From December 2024 to February 2025, we wish to support 100 families and to do this we need direct support of 5000 USD.
Main reason we want to implement Goat farming projects in Burega Sector, in Rwanda
Economic Empowerment: Goat farming will provide a source of income for rural families in Burega sector, Rwanda. It will  be an important tool for poverty alleviation and economic empowerment, particularly for those vulnerable people who are smallholder farmers. Goats are relatively low-cost livestock to raise and can generate income through the sale of meat, milk, and other products such as organic fertilizer.

Who is targeted in this project?

The project target the family fall under Ubudehe Category One  in Rwanda which refers to the most vulnerable and poorest households in Rwanda, those living in extreme poverty.

Key Characteristics of Ubudehe Category One:

  1. Extreme Poverty: Households in this category struggle to meet even the most basic needs such as food, shelter, and clothing. They often lack access to regular employment or any sustainable source of income.
  2. Vulnerable to Shocks: People in Category One are highly vulnerable to economic and environmental shocks, such as natural disasters, illness, or market fluctuations. They often live in precarious conditions with limited or no savings or resources to fall back on.
  3. Social and Economic Marginalization: These households are often socially and economically marginalized, with limited access to education, healthcare, or social services. Their living conditions are usually substandard, and they may lack access to clean water, sanitation, and proper housing.

Food Security: Goats are a source of meat and milk, which are important components of the diet in Rwanda. By promoting goat farming, Rwandan youth Development and Voluntary Organization (RWAYDAVO) aims to improve food security and nutrition in rural communities, particularly among targeted vulnerable populations.

Sustainability: Goats are well-adapted to the local environment in Rwanda

We request you donate generously to our project so that we can achieve our target. You could also consider making a monthly recurring donation for our project, which will help us with our ongoing work.  We thank you for everything that you have done for our projects, and we look forward to your continued support.

Thanks and Best Regards.

JEAN DAMASCENE UWIZEYIMANA
