GlobalGiving Report Update September 2021
Although conditions have remained difficult in Darjeeling due to the pandemic and localised lock-down we are pleased to report that work on the children’s home construction has continued.
Large windows in the new girls dormitory are designed for the upper bunk bed to look outside with inspiring views facing the mountains.
The wonderful new activities room has now neen fitted out with computer tables and in due course we are hoping to source computers and training.
We are delighted to have secured sufficient funds to buils large water storage tanks that will enable harvesting of the monsoom rain water for year round supply.
Accoring to the architect, the new unit is larger than proposed earlier, and has a spacious feel. Importantly we have the built form on one side, creating the much needed open space for the children.
The attempt will be to use the natural contours of the site to create play and green areas.
Construction work remains ongoing and with sufficient future funding we are hoping to target full completion within 12 – 18 months.
As Darjeeling begins to open-up we are hoping that we are seeing the start of a full recovery and that all of our projects can commence in earnest.
