What we do.

By Jon Morgan | Founder and Director, The Lake Clinic - Cambodia

Police explaining the laws on domestic violence.

We have been busy. In addition to our core programming of providing free healthcare and and health education as well as community health and homecare, The Lake Clinic has expanded its scope of care to include a concentrations on Domestic Violence and COVID-19 vaccinations.

The Lake Clinic has partnered with The Department of Women's Affairs, The Cambodian Women's Crisis Center as well as local government and law enforcement agencies in order to address a sadly growing problem. Domestic violence, whether it was targetted to the spouse or the children - usually both - has historically been ignored by law enforcement and considered a "personal, family matter." TLC has worked for many years in an attempt to bring this mental health issue to the attention of those with the authority to actively take a role in solving some of these problems.

In the beginning we sought to empower women to feel free to talk about this issue. In some individual cases we had success with our direct intervention, but all too often we were met with frustration as many men were intractable; they felt free of any consequences. With the very public backing of the local authorities we are seeing our efforts supported and making a difference.

In July of this year TLC was approached by the Provincial Departments of Health in both Kompong Thom and Siem Reap Provinces to partner with them in the distribution of COVID-19 vaccines. This is a great honor for The Lake Clinic as we are the only provider other than the government (Military and Ministry of Health) to be trusted to undertake this responsibility. So now, in addition to the "routine" vaccinations that we offer to our patients we can now add Astra-Zeneca, Moderna and Pfizer vaccines.

Clinical to date:

  • 224 clinics held across 9 villages
  • 13,280 clinical cases recorded
  • 6,887 participants in Health Education
  • 258 Antenatal Care
  • 231 birth spacing visits
  • 1,510 vaccinations
  • 142 mental health sessions
  • 35 hospital referrals

Outreach to date:

  • 2,439 Home by Home visits
  • 49 Teen Health Education Classes
  • 1,025 Elementary School children checked
  • 1,166 Children at Risk monitoring
  • 59 New Biosand Water Filters installed
  • 19 Mothers' Club meetings
  • 331 New Gardens

Thank you for your continued support.
