Asosyasyon pou Chanje Vizaj Ravin Olyann (ACHVRO) a farmer association whose goal is to change the community of Ravin Olyann is supported by the Lambi Fund.  The aim of their project is to increase production of sugar cane and increase the production of syrup used in the area as sugar for food consumption and baking.  In partnership  with Lambi Fund, ACHVRO established a mill and expanded its capacity for production by adding boilers and cultivating more sugarcane in the immediate community area.  It also created two community credit funds, one with the aim of helping farmers cultivate more sugar cane, the other to help women who sell syrup to increase their capacity and their volume sales. Their reforrestation component planted more than 20,000 new sugar cane plants.

Their syrup production increase from 31.50 drums to 63 drums, 100% as they had planned.  Their revenue doubled.  They were able to assist 45 women members with a community loan of HTG 5,000  (gourdes) to buy syrup for resale and 30 planters for the production of more cane.  Their rate of reimbursement is at 100% and with a 2% degressif interest, they are able to increase the number of loans.  The increase in organizational capacity is also evident in the training of 60 members in management, fund management, nursery training.

ACHVRO is one of the few organization who uses the byproduct from sugar cane “bagas” for burning fuel, an effective means of cooking syrup for Haiti that is highly deforrested. ACHVRO began with 90 members and have increased to 125 members, a 38% increase in membership.

Expanding the Local Food production is dependent on many factors,  For ACHRO in Ravin Olyan, It is the climatic changes,(seven month long drought (2015), ravaging hurricane (2014) that shaped its production in the last two years.  Although they reach 200% increase in their transformation and providing syrup for basic necessities, cooking, baking, these two events affected the production of sugar cane.  However, having fully developped the infrastruce and the funding support for their membership, ACHVRO stands to redouble its efforts and reach maximum production with a normal harvest.

Thanks to the support of donors, sustainers and your involvement that we are able, in partnership, to assist ACHVRO and 23 organizations  like ACHVRO reach their sustainability and expansion in their production.
