Katja has been sponsoring Sharon for the past 14 years - from first grade on - and now is putting her through university. Sharon is a B+ student who would most likely have not been able to go to school at all before her very smart and caring mother registered on to the Live and Learn in Kenya International Child Sponsorship Program.
Katja took this lovely, bright little girl under her wing and treats her as if she were her own daughter. I remember the day that they met in Nakuru, Kenya. Katja was excited to join us on our visit to Kenya and finally meet her sponsored child.
We all went to the Live and Learn in Kenya Education Center together. Our social worker, Mary, brought Sharon to us and told her who Katja was. The two of them fell into each other's arms as if they had always known one another and were finally seeing each other after a long time. There were indescribable tears of joy. Since then the relationship has deepened and developed into a friendship that is more of a kinship than just a sponsorship.
Sharon and Katja will never be the same again. They have empowered each other! Katja is giving Sharon all that she needs to be all that she can be - and Sharon is giving Katja all that she needs to know that she is loved and appreciated.
Who knows what the future may bring - but it will most certainly be one of knowledge and kindness.
Asante Sana - thank you so much!
