BOKAMOSO LIFE CENTRE
QUARTERLY REPORT
MARCH 2024
Youth Development Program:
Since the Centre's last quarterly report, 46 Bokamoso youth graduated from its core Youth Development Program (YDP). Over 100 youth have registered for the next session of YDP without a single registrant dropping from the program during the first quarter 2024. This demonstrates the continued relevance of this important life-skills training program.
Computer Training Program (CTP) :
Launched in 2021, the CTP offers an intensive 3-month computer skills certificate program. Since November 2023, 26 students graduated from this program. 27 are now enrolled for the next quarter in 2024 (January-March).
Job Placement:
30 graduates from BLC's YDP, Computer and Security training programs found employment since May 2023-February 2024. The majority of BLC alumni found work in security and law enforcement, retail and education.
Performing Arts:
10 Performing Arts students from the BLC attended a camp in January 2024 for skills training in script writing, acting and directing. This camp was sponsored and hosted by the South African Department of Arts and Culture.
The experience was so successful that in March 2024, 15 female students from BLC attended the same camp.
Partner Seminar: “One Man Can”
In February 2024, BLC partner organization, Childline, organized and convened at the Centre a three-day workshop for 40 young men enrolled at BLC on the topic of gender-based violence, titled “One Man Can”. The discussion focused on the ongoing prevalence of gender-based violence against women in South Africa and how, as men, they can each do their part as individuals and as men to be part of the solution to end violence against women, as well as to say no to other factors that too often contribute to violent behavior, such as drugs and crime.
Gender-based Violence Seminar hosted by the Catholic Health Care Association (CATHCA)
In addition to the seminar hosted by Childline, “One Man Can”, the Catholic Health Care Association hosted a complimentary seminar for Bokamoso youth and adults from the community at the BLC, on the topic of gender-based violence. Also convened in February 2024, over 100 participants from the Bokamoso Life Center and neighboring community attended this event.
Supplemental Life Skills Training:
Beginning in January 2024, in addition to the regular curriculum offered through BLC’s Youth Development Program, 70% of the current BLC youth, have also taken advantage of supplemental, and comprehensive Life Skills training that is being funded by the South African Department of Social Development.
