Women in Yemen, whether women or girls, are exposed to enormous challenges as a result of ongoing conflicts and wars, which increases their likelihood of being exposed to violence and violations, as Yemeni women and girls are exposed to various forms of violence, including physical, psychological and sexual violence.

Sexual violations, exploitation and abuse as a result of conflicts, which face a lack of legal and social protection, which makes them vulnerable.

One of the most important objectives of the project is:

Awareness of women (girls and women): Sand Organization implemented many awareness programs for women exposed to violence and survivors of their rights and how to protect themselves from violence, violations and family tyranny. These programs targeted 52 women and 52 girls, with a total of 104 beneficiaries of awareness programs, which were carried out through 9 groups distributed across 3 Yemeni governorates at a rate of 3 groups in each governorate as a first stage, which was carried out in 22 awareness sessions implemented by male and female protection specialists and legal advisors.

The groups targeted women (women and girls) residing in IDP camps, as IDPs are the most vulnerable to violence.

Providing psychological support:

This activity targeted women who were psychologically affected by conflicts and wars, as well as survivors of gender-based violence. The program targeted 34 women and 46 girls by providing counseling and psychological support by psychological specialists and consultants. The beneficiaries were sorted according to the type of cases. The result of the sorting was to refer 12 women and 18 girls to a psychiatrist due to the seriousness of the cases, which require undergoing psychological therapy sessions with the use of the necessary medications as prescribed by the doctor.

Implementing 12 workshops to raise awareness and mobilize official and popular community advocacy to know the seriousness of what Yemeni women and girls are exposed to from various forms of violence and that they are among the most vulnerable community cases.

Where networking was done with official legal, security, criminal and human rights authorities to come up with a comprehensive study that gives women the rights they must enjoy and follow up with legislative authorities to enact laws that serve the protection of women and girls in cooperation with local advisory centers.

The results of this study and research were as follows:

Tightening the laws related to the protection of women and girls and implementing them effectively with strict penalties imposed on perpetrators to reduce incidents of violence against women.

Providing support and care services:
Psychological and social support services and women's health care must be provided to women who have been subjected to violence. And enhancing awareness and education by organizing awareness campaigns and educational programs for women and society in general about the rights of women and girls and the need to stop violence against them.

The conclusion of the study also emphasizes the need to enhance women's participation in decision-making and political and social participation to enhance their role and rights.

Enhancing education and training and providing education and training opportunities for women to empower them economically and socially and enhance their ability to be independent.

Providing a safe and stable environment for women to reduce the risk of exposure to violence and violations.

These were the most important outcomes of the workshops and networking implemented by Sand Organization.

44 girls and women were enrolled in training programs in the field of sewing, embroidery, incense and perfume making within the economic empowerment program for women and girls for a period of 30 days, at a rate of 10 days for the sewing and embroidery program, 10 days for the incense and perfume making program, and 10 days for embroidery and belt making.

Obstacles and challenges:

The most important obstacle in implementing a larger number of activities was the lack of financial support, as donations were delayed in arriving on time, as well as the lack of donations in this most important field.

Recommendations:

Raise the level of donations and expedite the sending of the amounts allocated to the women and girls protection project in order to intensify the activities specified in the project, as well as add the outputs of the workshops to implement them as additional activities.
