I hope 2021 is a year of great happiness and success for you. The year 2020 was difficult for everybody but it was also meaningful for us, that we could meet you who show attention and supports to our project.
About project,
Due to COVID-19 pandemic and long quarantine of Colombian government, accesses to communities were limited. we kept contacting with communities and we also supported them with aliments to pass this difficult time. However, last fourth quarter, October, November and December, visits were made, with all the biosafety protocols, to give continuity to the training activities, monitoring of the production and purchase of the Mochila bags. During these visits, women continue to be made aware of the importance and potential of their work to transform their lives, those of their families and those of the community itself. During these visits, masks and aliments were given to wayuu families and short education to prevent COVID-19.
Wayuu communities and Share Sarangbat Colombia are facing up some problems of the post-COVID-19. First, the demand and the market prices of Mochila bags decreased dramatically because of COVID-19 pandemic. However, Share Sarangbat Colombia continues to make commensurate and fair remuneration to their artisan works carried out by Wayuu women, guaranteeing that the families’ income elaborated by Mochila bag is not precarious. Currently, Share Sarangbat Colombia, in response to the commercial and technological challenges posed by the pandemic, is working on the search for digital strategies that allow communities to appropriate digital media as a tool for rapprochement between producers and consumers final, in order to reduce the intermediation and complete and the virtuous circle and the self-management of the communities. And fortunately, COVID-19 hasn’t been found yet to our communities. But as communities are located in the middle of desert, lack of water is always problem not only for drinking but also for hygiene reason.
