This is the story of Legavarshini, an 8th grade student student at the Cuddalore Isha Vidhya school. Exemplary in spoken English, she is a daughter of a poor farmer. Legavarshini aspires from her early ages to become a District Collector (the district’s Chief Administrator). She thinks that that would be the ultimate service to the rural people. Her father is very particular on educating both of his daughters in a good English medium school but was not in a position to bear the expenses.
Isha Vidhya came to his rescue and provided education scholarship for Legavarshini. She speaks flawless English, which surprises everyone who visits the school. Even if the visitors speak to her in Tamil, she answers in English! She falls in line with the guidance to speak only in English within the campus. On the Annual Day function, she gave a speech in English about the methodology followed for teaching English by the school, which was the highlight of the program! Her father repeatedly says with gratitude that but for Isha Vidhya, his daughter would not have got this wonderful opportunity.
Shares Legavarshini: “My father cultivates land. I see him facing a lot of difficulty in matters related to the land. He says that there is someone called a ‘District Collector’ who could set everything right. So, I aspire to be that District Collector and help my father as well as our rural people too!" It is indeed the purest expression of a daughter's love for her father!
“This is made possible by the generosity of our donors to whom we would like to extend our heart-felt gratitude”, says the Cuddalore school staff. Well, all of us at Isha Vidhya share their feelings, and I am sure you would too!
If you would like to be part of this wonderful effort, we would like to invite you to start a monthly recurring donation for a small amount for our project.
