Project Report | Jan 12, 2021
Thank you! Maria's house is being built!!

By Raquel Cueto, from Nature Power Foundation | Alliances and Communication Advisor

Your contribution is supporting the construction of a sustainable housing model in Azua, Dominican Republic, so that people can live with dignified spaces that eliminate the deprivation of precarious housing, overcrowding, and vulnerability to climatic shocks.

María is very happy with the progress of her new home. On behalf of our team, THANK YOU for your solidarity and support through the GlobalGiving fundraising platform. Finally, Maria’s dream is becoming a reality: a safe place to see her family grow.

This is one of the 50 families that thanks to your generosity will have access for the first time to clean water and energy, a bathroom and better living conditions. These eco-innovative homes are built with recycled plastic through the partnership with Habitat‘s local affiliate in the Dominican Republic.

2020 Achievements:

  • 19 houses of approximately 35 square meters are being built with recycled plastic blocks, cement floors, two bedrooms, living room, dining room, bathroom inside the house, kitchen and hall. The house will have a drainage system for waste management.
  • Trained and organized the community on the importance of building houses that help preserve the environment with the correct management of basic services, such as water and sanitation, with adequate solid waste management.
  • Organized community work brigades that are responsible of the construction of their own houses and their neighbors.
