On the morning of March 28, a severe earthquake struck Myanmar. Other countries in Southeast Asia also felt the effects. Millions of people are affected; thousands of homes have been destroyed, as have critical infrastructure. Together with their local partners, the alliance organizations of Aktion Deutschland Hilft are working in Myanmar and are already providing people with urgently needed emergency aid - for example, with clean water, food, medicine and emergency shelter.
A 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck northwest Myanmar and neighboring regions of Thailand early this morning. Significant damage was reported in Myanmar, including the collapse of several buildings and the destruction of the historic Ava Bridge near Mandalay. The earthquake struck a country already suffering - 19.9 million people are dependent on humanitarian aid. Available resources are far from sufficient. This catastrophe further exacerbates the already precarious situation.
