Project Summary
Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs), also known as Disabled People’s Organizations (DPOs), are key drivers for inclusion, rights protection, and community empowerment. However, in many parts of Sindh, these groups lack the technical capacity, legal awareness, and organizational strength to effectively represent their members.
This GlobalGiving-funded initiative by NDF Pakistan is focused on building the capacity of grassroots OPDs to ensure they can lead advocacy efforts, access funding, and contribute to inclusive policy-making in Pakistan.
Key Progress Achievements
1. Training Needs Assessment
Conducted surveys and consultations with 7 OPDs across 2 districts
Identified key gaps in:
Organizational governance and leadership
Proposal writing and project planning
Rights-based advocacy and use of the Sindh Disability Law
2. Capacity Building Workshops
Delivered 3 One-day training sessions in Nawabshah
Trained 34 OPD leaders and members (including 28 women and 6 youth with disabilities)
Topics covered:
Leadership and governance of OPDs
Rights-based approaches to disability
Understanding and utilizing the Sindh Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Act 2018
Resource mobilization and partnership building
3. Organizational Support & Mentorship
Provided ongoing coaching to 10 OPDs to update their constitutions and improve registration status
4 OPDs supported in preparing funding proposals for local donors and government grants
Created a WhatsApp mentorship group for peer learning and ongoing guidance
