Pasantes are doctors who have just finished their medical schooling. Medic Outpost is partnering with the Ministry of Health in Hidalgo and Chiapas to hire these young doctors to teach our community first responder programs in the rural villages where they are stationed for a year. The program has been very successful and we have trained 26 doctors so far. They have in turn taught over 1000 local village people skills such as infant choking, CPR, bleeding control, and patient assessment. These skills save lives in the most critical situations and provide the only basic healthcare in many remote areas. We are beginning another “pasantes” course this week in Huejutla Hidalgo. This region is very remote and these communities to not speak Spanish. They speak a mountain dialect that will have to be translated during the teaching.
The Pasantes program is very important in getting our training to the isolated people in Mexico. Our goal this year is to expand the program and bring more young doctors into the Medic Outpost family. If you would like to help us support a Pasantes training or a village then please let me know. The cost for supporting a village program is $400.00 USD.
