We would like to thank all of the donors who have supported this project over the years. The original intention of the project was to teach women to weave, and then that the women would open businesses weaving carpets in their homes. Those of you who have been long time supporters know that we soon realized that the carpet weaving equipment was simply too big for most women to have in their homes, so instead we decided to allow the women to weave the carpets in the Afghan Institute of Learning’s Learning Centers, while teaching others to weave. Your support through the years has helped this program to grow and thrive.
The women have woven amazing works of art, from small carpets to very, very large rugs for the AIL conference hall. Currently there are four women in the carpet weaving program. These four women are able to earn a living wage by weaving, and can support their families with the income they earn selling the carpets.
Again, we thank you for all of the support that you have given to our program, and to supporting the traditional Afghan art of carpet weaving. We made this decision to close this project after this report. If you’d like to continue support us, please make a donation to our project Afghan Institute of Learning Empowers Women.
