COVID Risk Mitigation Projects in Nepal and Uganda

In areas where space is limited, clean water is inaccessible, or medical facilities are few and far between, COVID-19 remains a growing threat for many people. Peace Winds continues to implement projects that are mitigating the risk of COVID infections for beneficiaries in low-resourced countries.

In Nepal, Peace Winds is supporting a quarantine center in Sindhupalchok County, a rural, mountainous area where residents must walk 15 to 40 kilometers of mountain roads to reach a medical facility. In two new centers and two existing centers, Peace Winds will add 70 new beds so that residents infected with COVID can be treated in a safe and comfortable environment. Peace Winds is providing extra supplies such as beds, mattresses, sheets, blankets, masks, disinfectants, and antigen test kits, which are easier to use than PCR tests.

Additionally, our organization recently completed a water and sanitation project for refugees in western Uganda. The Chaka II refugee settlement has not had a sufficient water supply to keep up with the growing population. Residents have to walk long distances to water stations or use water from nearby swamps and ponds, which are also used for washing and livestock. The problem also extends into schools where students don't have sufficient access to hand-washing stations, making it especially hard to prevent COVID. Peace Winds has carried out our mission to improve local water supply facilities, construct toilets and hand washing facilities in elementary schools, install changing rooms, rainwater storage tanks, and disseminate menstruation hygiene products and information so that Chaka II residents now have much easier access to water.

Peace Winds is committed to continuing to mitigate the risk of COVID infection for at-risk populations around the world and thanks you for your support which makes these high-impact projects possible.
