Counselling for 300 children in Romania

Project Report | Feb 13, 2023
Hello 2023

By Gabriela Popescu | Project Leader

Dear supporter,

Recently, we have reached the eight-year mark since the official launch of Te Aud Romania (TAR) foundation. Within this time, we have served over 37,000 direct beneficiaries through a variety of projects, gathered in countless events to help children and young people develop harmoniously and prepare them for adult life.

In 2022, we tried to adjust to a new normal and embrace change to keep everyone safe, family, friends and beneficiaries. But then the Russian-Ukrainian war came, and TAR offered support for over 11,000 Ukrainian refugees, both children and adults, being part of Suceava county’s frontline war response committee.

As a charity focused on non-formal educational programs for children, we have worked alongside national and international partners to develop medium to long term solutions to integrate Ukrainian refugee children within the community and provide a safe and appropriate environment to alleviate the pain and grow. Several sports and socialising events were organised for refugees from our community, courtesy of our national and international partners, but a lot more is needed.

In 2023, we are going to focus on providing impactful and proven solutions around migration and integration, for children to flourish within a national and local context. We are now directing our attention to refugee children who are in desperate need of safety, stability, and protection. We seek to equip them for a chance at minimising the long-lasting consequences for generations to come.

Our main goal is to build, design and create an Integrated Education Centre in Gura Humorului – an area located near the Siret border – the border with the highest number of refugees fleeing from the war. The Education Centre shall become an important, permanent resource for the community as well as a model for other communities. At the same time, it will increase academic performances via designated on-site programs and activities in a safe, supportive, quietly purposeful environment.

Furthermore, we truly believe that sport can build stronger communities and be a tool for social development. Regardless the development of the education centre, we will continue to focus on sport for social impact programmes and interventions.
