Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, students in Uganda were out of school for 83 weeks - the longest COVID school closure in the world. This massive disruption in learning has put an entire generation of children at risk of never achieving their potential.
Thanks to the generosity of donors like you, Save the Children has been on the ground in Uganda to support children and families as they transition back into school. As we've told you before, in 2021 we established Catch-Up Clubs - an innovative approach to accelerate the recovery of lost learning during the pandemic and help children successfully return to school.
The clubs assess children and teach them at the required level to help them regain literacy and other learning, with child protection support and cash assistance for families struggling to send them back to school.
Catch-Up Club classes are taught by a community learning facilitator trained by Save the Children. They are conducted for two hours, five days a week, and are made up of children ages 12-16. After about 12 weeks in the program, at least 80% of participants can read and write to a standard that allows them to learn independently.
Thank you for supporting Save the Children's Corona Virus Response and helping to reach children around the world who are missing out most on learning and education because of the pandemic.
