Education about Covid-19

By Elizabeth Appleyard | Program Administrator

AIL clinics continue to have high volumes of patients and a shortage of medicines and of the Covid vaccine.  Clinics refer Covid patients to the governmental clinics and AIL continues to run a 50- bed Covid hospital in the Kabul area.

Providing clear, concise health education about the Covid virus remains critical to helping people protect themselves as new variants emerge. AIL produces leaflets on the virus and gives out health education messages to everyone who attends a clinic or sees one of Community Health Workers.

AIL’s newest clinic opened in February at Khoja Jam in the area of Kabul.  In that month the clinic dealt with 1,433 patients, gave 235 vaccinations and 2,304 attended health education.

News about the virus and recent variants is relayed through the private stations, Radio Meraj and TV Meraj. There is a weekly health show on the stations and AIL staff are guest speakers along with others from the health community.   AIL continues to distribute PPE, such as face masks made by staff.

The 2021 Sakena Fund annual report is attached and we hope you find it interesting.

Your support is vital to help us care for people in Afghanistan who have been affected by the pandemic.

Thank you.
