Project Report | Dec 28, 2021
The continuing challenge of Covid-19

By Elizabeth Appleyard | Program Administrator

***There are only a few days left to donate in 2021! We would love your support for our projects. Thank you!***

AIL staff continue providing humanitarian relief to people affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and the economic and political upheaval that has taken place in the country.

Our clinics are stretched to capacity and beyond, with thousands of displaced people adding to the usual patient numbers. There is a shortage of medicines and of the Covid vaccine.  Clinics refer Covid patients to the governmental clinics and AIL continues to run a 50- bed Covid hospital in the Kabul area. The health clinics provide health education on many topics including the virus.

We have hundreds of people camping outside our facilities but we lack enough food, vitamins, Ensure, Pedialyte and vaccines to help everyone who needs it. We desperately need funding, food supplements, clean water, hygiene supplies and Covid vaccines.  We plan to open two new health clinics in 2022 to help address the need for health care. News about the virus and more recent variants such as Delta and Omicron is being relayed through the private stations, Radio Meraj and TV Meraj.  AIL staff are continuing to produce PPE with 10,000 face masks made and distributed.

AIL Outreach 2021: 23,905 students, 18,132 PPE distributed, 6 health clinics, 50-bed Covid-19 hospital, 95,593 patient treatments, 59,888 health education, 13,050 food aid families served, 22 radio broadcasts daily, 8 hours of TV programs, 12 provinces reached.

Your support is vital to help us care for people in Afghanistan who have been affected by the pandemic.  Thank you.
