Typhoon Mangkhut brought extensive damage to rice and corn fields in north central Luzon. Peace Winds America and the Citizens Disaster Response Corps with foundation support has targeted 2700 family households distributing food, non-food items and hygiene kits.
Returning to devasted farms and homes was difficult as many roads had been washed out by mudslides, resulting in longer evacuation on the Government and community centers. Government and the military have opened most of the roads by the end of 2018.
Farming communities did work together to salvage the damaged crops enabling them to feed the animals that had survived. Late in 2018 the farmers had replanted rice and corn with our purchased distributed seeds, enabling farmers to focus their few savings on rebuilding storage/warehouses, and homes.
Most of Typhoon Mangkhut evacuees by the end of 2018 have returned to the communities and farms, rebuilding using donated cinder blocks and tin roofs. The Citizens Disaster Response Corps continue to provide food and non-food items to families as they departed the evacuation centers moving to their homes.
Peace Winds America and the Citizens Disaster Response Corps greatly appreciates your support as families regain their livelihoods.
