22 Children Misplaced During Violent Home Attacks

By Jennifer Jones | Director of Donor Relations & Communications

These are indeed difficult times for the world and for the children and families HRI serves every day. The political instability and concomitant violence plaguing Haiti most notably impacts the most vulnerable cross sections of the population.

A few weeks ago, HRI and a partnering orphanage, rescued 22 children found wandering the streets and parks of their neighborhood. In the days prior, their community and their families were the victims of shootings and fires, and the burning of homes in a densely populated slum. The parents of these children either perished in the violence or the children were simply lost in the chaos. HRI is committed to helping these children and to doing our best to locate their parents, grandparents or other relatives who are likely searching frantically for them.

Without you, and others like you, HRI could not fight these battles nor could we ever hope to achieve the successes we do each and every day through our Children First program and others. Those 22 children are safe today, they are fed and healthy, and that is thanks to you and your support and your belief that we can lend a hand and raise up people in need.

Our Children First program continues to serve 215 of the poorest children in Haiti. Through this program, the children are attending a really good school, getting medical care, nutritious meals, psychosocial support, trainings on WASH and more. Their parents continue to benefit from trainings on business development, financial management and parenting. All of these services work together to create better outcomes for the children and their single mothers so they can together fight their way out of systemic poverty through education and more sustainable incomes.

Thank you again for helping children and families with daily survival needs and for paving the way for new futures with your giving.

We just received the completed 2020 IRS Audited Financials. The link is posted below. Our Annual Report will be released this week as well, so be looking for that link in your next report!
