Caritas Severe Storm Emergency Response Austria

In September 2024, Austria was hit by devastating storms that caused severe flooding, particularly in the eastern regions. Several municipalities were declared disaster zones and had to be evacuated. Thanks to the swift and dedicated efforts of Caritas Austria, in partnership with local organizations, immediate and comprehensive aid was delivered to thousands of affected individuals.

What We Accomplished Together

• Emergency Relief Centers: We set up over 35 flood relief offices across the hardest-hit areas, providing essential support, advice, and services to those in need.
• Financial Assistance: Urgent financial support was provided — €150 per adult and €100 per child — helping families cover critical expenses. Food and shopping vouchers were also distributed to ensure access to daily essentials.
• Volunteer Power: More than 3,000 volunteers registered through the füreinand (“for each other”) platform, helping with clean-up, transportation, and practical support, demonstrating the incredible power of solidarity.

Thanks to the generosity and commitment of our supporters, the emergency phase has been successfully completed. Immediate needs have been met, and affected families are now receiving continued assistance as they rebuild their lives and communities.
