Rapid Support following severe storms in Austria

Extreme floodings after severe storms in Austria

In September 2024, Austria was struck by devastating storms, causing severe flooding, particularly in the country's eastern regions - many municipalities were even temporarily declared disaster areas and had to be evacuated. Caritas Austria responded promptly with comprehensive emergency measures to support affected individuals quickly and without bureaucracy.

Emergency Response & Bridging Support:

Emergency Response Centers: Caritas established special flood relief offices in more than 35 communities, providing affected individuals with support and guidance.
Financial Assistance: Immediate financial support of 150 Euro per adult household member and 100 Euro per child was provided to address urgent needs. Additionally, food and shopping vouchers were distributed to those impacted.
Volunteer Work: Over 3,000 volunteers registered through the platform "füreinand" ("for each other") and assisted affected individuals with clean-up efforts and other essential tasks.

Current Status:

Emergency response efforts are still in full swing. Caritas is committed to supporting those affected in the short-term and the long-term recovery and rebuilding process. The solidarity and support from the public have been invaluable in these efforts.
