Build a well in Southern Sudan for 1500 people

Thank you for your continued support. Donors like you are transforming lives by providing clean water and hygiene education to people in South Sudan. Access to clean water saves women and children hours of walking each day allowing more children the opportunity to attend school and women the ability to establish small businesses. Since 2005, Water for South Sudan (WFSS) has installed 364 new wells, rehabbed 98 older wells and provided 290 hygiene education training programs.

The 2018-2019 drilling season is well underway. Our team began the season in October rehabbing older wells and providing hygiene education training to villagers. Field staff began drilling new wells in January. To date this season, 47 older wells received upgraded cement platforms and 15 new wells have been drilled. Hygiene education is provided in each village bringing our season total to 62 training programs completed. 

This season, the team repaired an older well in the village of Sumut. Sunday is a young woman living in the village and spoke with our staff after work was completed. She spoke of the dangers of using water from a hand dug well, "We were at the point of getting waterborne diseases when we use water from unprotected source. Also, children are at the risk if the people in village use hand dug well, they may fall into the well."

Sunday shared how life has changed since WFSS drilled a well in her village, "WFSS has helped us with clean water. Life has improved due to water availability, we can get water and perform all the duties that we need to do with water. Our animals are also enjoying together with us since the well has been drilled."

Our goal of $15,000 has been reached and our "Global Giving" well will be drilled this coming drilling season (2011-12). Thank you for your generosity in funding this well! The Water for Sudan teams have just finished the 2010-11 season, drilling 28 wells this year, which brings our grand total to 104 wells since 2005. While the WFS crews were never in danger, they did need to wait several weeks after the January 9, 2011 referendum, in which South Sudan voted overwhelming to become independent from North Sudan, to be certain they could drill safely. Our founder and president Salva Dut was back in the US briefly this spring and is now back in South Sudan, constructing a new compound for our drilling rigs and equipment. He is very much looking forward to independence for his country and is glad he will be in South Sudan for their independence day on July 9. While we have just finished the 2010-11 drilling season, preparation has already begun for 2011-12, which will begin in November or December. Thank you for being a part of our success.
