Dear Friends of Water for South Sudan:
Time flies! Next month we will begin drilling again. As soon as the 2011-12 drilling season ended last May, plans were already underway for the 2012-13 season, set to begin sometime in December.
Many repairs have been made this summer and fall. We're getting ready to ship new drill bits and other parts over to our crews in South Sudan. Work has continued on our new compound in Wau and should be finished soon. We have hired two new employees in South Sudan and now have four former "Lost Boys" working full time in South Sudan. All were refugees who came to the US, received an education, and have now gone back to help develop their homeland.
We have now drilled 137 wells, and plan to drill 40 new wells this season. Access to clean water creates profound change. Life-altering opportunities arise when villagers, especially women and girls, no longer have to walk miles for water. Markets spring up. Schools and clinics can be built. A new future begins to emerge.
