Dear Friends,
Last time we updated you on Kiruru, it was the rainy season, and all building work was halted while the farms thrived.
We are pleased to report that alongside the flourishing farms, the number of pupils able to study at Kiruru school continues to grow, thanks to your generous support. The school is now educating 180 primary aged students in two primary classrooms; 89 girls and 91 boys. Indeed, so popular is the school in Kiruru that the community has worked exceptionally hard to collect another 10 million TSH to build an additional classroom in order to teach everyone.
2 toilets have also been built, with work ongoing on an additional 8 to serve the growing school community.
With this impressive increase in pupil numbers, the additional classroom has become the build priority. As such, the teachers’ house has still not been completed, with an additional 18,526,000TSH (approx. 7000USD) budgeted for these works. In the meantime, a teacher must be brought in from Terat every day, using 2 litres of fuel which must be paid for by the community.
The attached images show the current classrooms being put to good use, as well as the progress that has been made so far for the teachers’ house. We look forward to updating you soon on the progress being made on the build. In the meantime, if you'd like to share this project with friends and family, to help us progress the building of the teachers’ house, to be able to educate even more of the children of the village, the whole community of Kiruru would be very grateful.
Many thanks and kind regards,
Kirsten and the SVRG team
