Dear Friends,
AIL currently has 43 Learning Centers and one of its goals is to for each center to have its own library. The Peer Herat Disabled Center just opened its own library which will benefit the 30 disabled people who live there and the 3 staff. At the library opening ceremony the center manager said, " This library has opened because of the support of Dr. Yacobbi, the mother of education in Afganistan. The library is now complete and available to all which is a great help in their education."
AIL Herat Main Office already has a library but new plans are in place to expand the library with more shelving, a TV, books and desks. The library has between 800 and 900 books now and this resource is used by office staff and staff from AIL centers, the Legal Clinic, health clinics as well as anyone attending a workshop or seminar at the office location. The office library has books on many topics including, social sciences, health, science, economics, English, computer networks, IT, history, literature, Encyclopedias, psychology, leadership, democracy, justice, law, children’s rights, management and the environment. The new purchases will both add to and expand the range of subject matter available. Members of the public needing to use a library are directed to the AIL supported library at The Citadel historic site in Herat which has a larger range of books.
Please read the attached CHI 2015 Newsletter featuring AIL for information on activities last year. Thanks for your continued interest.
