AIL is active in promoting literacy and book reading to all children.  September 8th is International Literacy Day and this is highlighted at the schools and Learning Centers. We have included a photo of children celebrating literacy day and one of children with new books. Here is the story of one girl whose life was transformed after attending a literacy class.

"We lived in poverty and misery and were isolated, knowing no one. But after 6 months, I got to know our neighbors and became friends with their girls. Those girls were going to school and it made me interested in school. When it was time for school, I would go to our front door and watch the students walking by on their way to class.  My heart was wanting to go. One day I shared this with my mother, but she said nothing and I thought that she had rejected the idea. But one week later, my mother came to me and said that she had found an AIL center for us which is close by. I started at the center in the 4th Grade. I studied there for three years and then started at the public school. Now I am a school graduate and am getting ready to take the Kankor University Entrance Exam. I love the center and I have also registered for cosmetology class.”

Thank you for your continued support for our project.
