Project Summary
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a developmental condition that affects communication, social interaction, and behavior. In Pakistan—especially in underserved areas of Sindh—there is a severe lack of early intervention, special education, and public understanding of autism. Children with autism are often excluded from mainstream schooling and community life.
Through this GlobalGiving project, NDF Pakistan is working to mainstream children with autism by providing specialized rehabilitation services, including speech therapy, occupational therapy, behavioral therapy, and inclusive education support. With timely intervention, autism can be managed, and children can thrive in family, school, and society.
Progress Highlights
1. Identification & Assessment
Conducted screening of 51 children across NDF Rehabilitation Centers in Nawabshah, Larkana, and Karachi
23 children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) through qualified clinical psychologists
2. Rehabilitation Services Initiated
Individual therapy plans developed for all 23 diagnosed children
Services provided:
Speech therapy: 19 children
Occupational therapy: 15 children
Behavioral therapy (ABA-based): 12 children
Parent counseling sessions: 21 families
Weekly therapy sessions conducted with progress monitored monthly
3. Inclusion & Awareness
5 children supported to join inclusive classrooms in local private schools
Conducted two autism awareness workshops for teachers and parents (one in Karachi, one in Nawabshah)
Distributed IEC materials in Urdu and Sindhi for community education
