Since October 7, 2023, Americares has worked to address the urgent health needs of children and adults affected by the crisis. Since Israel was violently attacked on Oct. 7, 2023, and the ongoing hostilities have escalated, the health care system in Gaza has collapsed. Only 17 hospitals are partially functioning. Shortages of electricity, medicine, equipment and specialized personnel put lives at risk.An estimated 90% of the population is displaced, living in overcrowded, makeshift shelters lacking clean water and adequate nutrition, heightening health concerns, and 1M childrenare in need of mental health support.
Americares is delivering medicine and medical supplies to Gaza, as well as providing funding to support medical teams providing care in shelters. Americares is also funding medical care, mental health support, hygiene kits, clothing and educational materials for children and their caregivers in Gaza and Egypt. Your support will bolster our work to increase access to these supplies and mental health support for frontline healthcare providers and survivors.
Contributions will support the provision of health-focused humanitarian aid as well as response and recovery programming, including mental health and psychosocial support. The crisis is incredibly complex and rapidly evolving. We know the longer the war goes on, the more support will be needed for survivors and frontline responders. We have a long history of supporting health care systems in the region with deliveries of medicine and medical supplies, and support for health programs.
