Hello donors!
It has been nearly 4 months since Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Maria battered islands throughout the Caribbean, leaving behind devastation that is still evident today. All Hands and Hearts - Smart Response immediately responded in St. Thomas and has been on the ground ever since working to remove debris and perform cleanup efforts throughout the island. We have completed work on over 100 homes, mucking and gutting damaged materials and clearing debris. We have begun to sanitize many of these homes in order to prepare them for rebuild. Over the course of the last few months it has become apparent that there is more work to be done across many more islands and there are areas that have not yet received help and need assistance.
All Hands and Hearts has sent members of the Project Development team to multiple islands to assess the damage and communicate with local leaders and organizations to see what help is needed immediately. Through this process we have identified many communities that have been overlooked and need our help.
In addition to our continued work in St. Thomas we have identified communities in Tortola and Puerto Rico that need immediate assistance. Assessments are still ongoing on other islands and plans are being developed to launch programs in the new year. Each program will come with its own set of challenges, for example many communities throughout Puerto Rico are still inaccessible, especially in the mountainous regions. Through the support of generous donors like you, as well as local organizations and community members on the ground, it is our goal to bring relief to families that are still reeling from these devastating disasters.
Thank you for your continued support!
