Computers - a way to a job
By Elizabeth Appleyard | Program Officer

Computing skills remain in demand in Afghan society and so students want to acquire these skills at AIL Learning Centers. AIL regularly receives requests from centers to start their own computer class and staff do their best to provide the necessary equipment and trained teachers. The AIL course that combines English and Computers remains in high demand. In Kabul there are two centers running a 6 month course: the first has 30 students all females ages 10-19, the second center has 62 students (30 female).
One student studying computing had this to say: “I am studying computer programs and already have passed several with the help of my teachers and my hard work. Before I was referred to the center, I had the biggest disappointment with computing. This center is being supported by the people of the area which is good for the center and the people of the community. Though there is a governmental school too, when I found out about this center, I immediately went and enrolled myself there and started studying computer programs and English together with my computer class. I believe it was the biggest opportunity and change in my life since attending AIL classes. I spoke with my family and I am going to teach at this center soon and not only be able to continue my studies, but also I will be able to be supported financially.”
Thanks for your interest and support for this AIL project.
