AIL recently began supporting a program that is giving schooling and housing to boys who were begging on the street to help support their families. For many of the younger boys, this is the first time they’ve ever had books to care for, so in February, AIL staff concentrated on teaching them to care for the books properly. First, the boys needed to learn that they should keep the book, and be sure not to lose it. Then they were taught to keep the book clean. Once the boys had learned these lessons, they were given more books to use and care for.

The older students completed an activity where they were asked to work in groups to write messages that would teach the younger students about peace. They were then asked to read their messages in front of a group of teachers and students. The assignment motivated the older students to research the subject before presenting it to their classmates.
