Cissus quadrangularis belongs to Vitaceae, the Grape Family and is a climbing succulent found in dry deciduous forests. It climbs with the aid of tendrils that are opposite to the leaf-stalks. It has many health benefits, namely it contributes to bone health and relieves joint pains. It has a high content of vitamin C, is high in anti-oxidantts and it regulates menstruation.
It also makes for a perfect chutney. We share more about this species, how to harvest and process these,, and some cautionary notes. Finally, we share a delish chutney recipe from the Forest Food Field School in India.
