Dear friends!
Once again, we express our deep gratitude to you for not remaining indifferent to the problems of internally displaced persons in Ukraine during the war.
The war is not over, so Russia continues to destroy our homes, kill our loved ones and destroy our infrastructure.
Today we would like to share the story of a family that found a temporary home in our “Your support” Shelter.
This story is about Ms. Daria, who used to live in the city of Sumy. She is raising two daughters alone, the youngest of whom was born in Poland, where the family left when Sumy was under occupation. She worked in food and trade, has a secondary education.
"My aunt called me at 5 a.m., and I didn't pick up the phone the first time, but I picked it up the second time.
the second time I picked up, then she told me to turn on the news because the war had started,” Daria says.
Daria tells about 24.02.2022.
On March 12, they managed to leave for the government-controlled territories of Ukraine, thanks to the fact that foreign students were studying in Sumy, and the Muscovites provided a green corridor for their evacuation. They were looking for a taxi to take them to the evacuation buses for a week, as Daria's mother was unable to travel alone due to her advanced age and health condition.
At first, they managed to get to Lubny, but the road was difficult - the child was constantly
The child was constantly dizzy and has vestibular disorders to this day.
From Poltava region, the road went to Lviv: “In Lubny, we were quickly thrown into a train and traveled for fourteen hours to Lviv. As an alarm, we stopped and turned off the lights so as not to provoke the Russians. They told us to keep our phones off so they couldn't track us."
However, Daria does not regret leaving her native Sumy, where the situation was
was extremely tense. From Lviv, pregnant Daria, her daughter and mother left for Poland, where they stayed for six months. In Poland, they had problems with the paperwork for temporary
asylum, which was done by a local citizen guardian, and as a result, they lost
child support. For the narrator, staying in Poland was not very easy because of her reluctance to take care of a family in which no one can work, because of the sometimes excessive and inappropriate requirements for immigrants, and because of the not always proper living conditions.
Acts of racist aggression continue to this day. They hit both Sumy and the border settlements, which they are essentially turning into a wasteland, creating a so-called gray zone along their territories. In her hometown, Daria has a brother who has a well-paid job there and no family, so she considers the risk justified.
Impressions of the Shelter, assessment of its work:
At the time of the interview, Daria with her children and mother had been in the shelter for about
three weeks. "Everything is fine here, we are so grateful to the people who took us in. Here
They feed us well, we sleep warmly, and there are activities for the children. People are ready to help with documents. They help and advise. God bless everyone here!” says Daria.
"We are glad that with your support we are becoming a home for families, albeit a temporary one. Nevertheless, we are ready to help these people adapt, look for work, so that they can rent their own housing in the future.
Since February 24, 2022, as part of the project “Help Ukraine! Stop the War” project, the Charitable Foundation ‘Your support’ has been providing assistance to Ukrainians affected by the war. These include 135 medical institutions in Ukraine, more than 77 orphanages and more than 5,000 internally displaced persons who have received temporary housing and support in our Shelter in Lviv.
